I spent about a year and a half experimenting with abstraction. Since they. were experiments they do not come together to form a cohesive body of work but are all made with the same core concept. These works explore what it is to live with chronic illnesses (specifically Type 1 Diabetes and Stargardt’s Macular Dystrophy) and the correlation between physical and mental. health — how they feed off of each other. Many are made by taking inspiration from scientific and medical images relating to the aforementioned diseases, and infusing that inspiration with my own person experience. Towards the end of my time working in abstraction, I felt a disconnect from it and decided to move on and find a new way of working that resonates with me.
